It’s Autumn 2020. The nation is entering another lockdown. Takeaway food is having its hay day. Birtelli’s pizza, an artisan pizza business based in Warwickshire, wanted to take advantage of the need for stay-at-home dining. But how to get more of their pizzas into homes across the nation?

The challenge

When we first spoke to Birtelli’s, their pizza kits were a very new concept that had been successful locally. But with a national lockdown going on, they - and we - felt confident that they’d fly out of the restaurant. It being October, media attention was geared towards the festive season. We knew we had a short window of opportunity.

The solution

We launched the concept to the media as a priority. This resulted in press coverage appearing after just 2 weeks of the start of our engagement. 

With press activity underway, our attention turned towards developing the overall marketing strategy. Social media provided us with a captive audience. We were able to test content and our audiences to refine our approach and drive more online sales.

The outcome

The response was…well, astounding. So much so that Birtelli’s had to pitch for funding (a process that we helped them with) to expand their pizza kit production facility.

We achieved 65 pieces of coverage between October 2020 and March 2021 across national publications, online media and influencers, including positive write-ups in The Times, The Independent, Metro, Stylist, and The Telegraph. We also initiated and secured partnerships with Joe & Seph’s Gourmet Popcorn and Kip Hideaways.
