Why we created the VMD course

We’re here to arm small business owners with the knowledge and confidence they need to take the power back from agencies and market on their own terms.

We were on a train back from a workshop. We’d spent the last three hours speaking to small business owners about how to analyse their marketing and spot growth opportunities, reducing spend while they’re at it.

This is a process we go through with all our clients when we onboard them. It forms the basis of our marketing strategies. But it costs. Which makes it inaccessible to many of the business that would benefit from it most.

Marketing knowledge that’s accessible to everyone

4,110,145 businesses in the UK have no employees. Which means they’re a one-person-band. One person doing absolutely everything by themselves. We’ve been there ourselves separately as freelancers and now together. And we’d met a lot of these business owners at our workshop.

If we can demystify the marketing part of growing a business for these people (so our train conversation went) and give them the tools to manage their own marketing department, wouldn’t that be pretty great?

Enter the Virtual Marketing Director COURSE

Any business can be successful if they have the budget. They don’t even need their product or service to be that good. They just need enough money to get it in front of enough people who believe it is.

These businesses are in the tiny minority. The rest of us have to work smart. Which is where the Virtual Marketing Director (VMD) course comes in to play.

Marketing isn’t a dark art. At its most honest, it’s a collection of processes and tactics that help a business to grow.

Traditional marketing providers might list these tactics out as the services they offer: PR, SEO, web design, content, social media…you don’t need us to go on.

The thing is that these services only work in certain situations, for certain businesses. You can’t just plug and play and get an optimal result.

Empowering small businesses

By teaching small business owners how to develop and implement their own marketing strategies, we’re hoping they’ll never have to make blind investments in ill-suited marketing agencies again.

Even if they choose to outsource one or more of their tactics at some point, the knowledge gained from the VMD course will show them how to track and measure the business-level success. Even if their provider isn’t.

Everything we cover in the course is a process or tactic we use ourselves with our retainer clients. Processes and tactics that we’ve developed in our careers before Kokopelli and since.

The only difference is that we’re teaching them to business owners, rather than doing them on their behalf.
